LEGOLAND California Resort has revealed the first official details of LEGO Galaxy, a major new space-themed land currently under construction at the Carlsbad theme park.
Set to open on March 6, 2026, the new area represents the park’s largest expansion in decades and will introduce multiple attractions, interactive play spaces, and themed dining.
During a behind-the-scenes hard hat tour on January 15, LEGOLAND executives and members of the Merlin Entertainments creative division, Merlin Magic Making, showcased the progress of the land and outlined its story-driven design.
LEGO Galaxy will feature the resort’s first roller coaster in more than 20 years, alongside two additional rides and several hands-on experiences aimed primarily at families with younger children.
According to the park, the project forms part of a $90 million combined investment across both LEGOLAND California and LEGOLAND Florida, making it the largest single in-park investment in the history of those two resorts.

Galacticoaster Headlines the New Land
The centerpiece attraction will be Galacticoaster, an indoor family roller coaster that blends physical thrills with digital customization. Before boarding, guests design their own spacecraft at interactive stations, choosing from different visual components such as the nose, wings, tail, and novelty features. The design is linked to an RFID wristband, allowing riders to see their personalized spacecraft represented during the ride.
LEGOLAND says there are more than 625 possible spacecraft combinations, and the ride reaches speeds of up to 40 mph. The experience includes an immersive queue with pre-shows, onboard audio and lighting effects, and scenes inspired by LEGO Space themes from past and present. A new character, Biff Dipper, described as the first robotic LEGO minifigure at LEGOLAND, appears during the pre-ride briefing.
Additional Attractions and Play Areas
Beyond Galacticoaster, LEGO Galaxy will include several family-friendly experiences:
- G-Force Test Facility, a spinning and swinging ride designed to simulate astronaut training.
- DUPLO® Launch and Land, a gentle ride aimed at toddlers and preschool-age children.
- Junior Astronaut Training Zone, a dedicated soft-play and exploration area for younger guests.
- Rocket Assembly Bay, a LEGO building experience where guests can construct rockets and digitally launch them into a virtual space environment.
Dining, Retail, and Design Details
The land will also feature several themed food locations, including U.F.O. (Ultimate Food Outlet), Stardust Sips & Sweets, and Satellite Bites, offering space-themed menu items. A brand-new retail location, Orbital Outpost, will sell LEGO Galaxy–exclusive merchandise.
LEGOLAND has incorporated references to its own history throughout the area. Existing 'Dragon Trees' from the park have been preserved and replanted within the land, while the main show building for Galacticoaster, Spaceport 886, takes its name and design inspiration from the classic LEGO Set 886 Space Buggy released in the 1970s.
Junior Galaxy Explorers Program
Ahead of the land’s opening, LEGOLAND California and LEGOLAND Florida are also launching a Junior Galaxy Explorers program for children ages 6–12. Participants can submit LEGO spacecraft designs online or at select children’s museums, with winners receiving early access to Galacticoaster, a stay at a LEGOLAND Hotel during opening weekend, annual passes, and LEGO-themed prizes.
LEGO Galaxy opens to the public on March 6, 2026, adding a major new attraction lineup to LEGOLAND California as the resort approaches its 30th anniversary.
